Hi everyone, i want either the ND100 or NDX for my cokin 'P' series and cant seem to find one anywhere. The only one i seem to be able to find is the B+W screw in type but as i'm hopefully going to be buying a new lens very soon i would rather not have to buy a second one.
Anyone know of a stockist?

What do the 100 and X refer to?

They are just the numbers cokin assign to them, like ND8 ND4 etc etc, the ref codes are 155 and 156 i believe. I think i might have to special order one.

These guys sell NDs in 100x100, so I imagine they would fit into a Cokin P holder:

I've not got any myself, but I've read that they are good quality. I would also think that Lee 100x100s should fit into the Cokin holder.

The numbers refer to the darkness of the glass. The higher the number the less light it lets through. The NDX reduces the light by 10stops and the ND100 6 Stops.

Ok next question. Has anybody used these filters before ( http://www.formatt.co.uk/stills-filters/filters/st... ) and are they ok quality? I'm one click away from buying the Highest density one (3.0) which is the same as the Cokin NDX i think.

The trouble I've found with the very dark Cokin ND filters is that you can often get reflection off the back of the filter which can be quite difficult to deal with/avoid.

I ended up getting a screw in ND8 instead, which also doesn't vignette at 10mm so it's a double bonus.

Generally, square/rectangular filters such as A-Type (67mm wide), P-Type (83.5mm wide), Z-Pro (100mm wide), and X-Pro (130mm wide) are made from a CR39-type resin. This is notoriously hard to keep truly "neutral" when you go above ND4 - although ND8 and above are available, there's a greater chance you'll get a colour cast.

If you're looking to ND8 or above, I'd consider an optical glass ND filter, the screw-type, as they're usually less prone to colour casts. If you go for, say, a 77mm ND8 screw-type filter, then you can just use stepping rings (less than £5 each) to use it on other lenses with a smaller screw thread, to save you buying multiple screw-type ND filters. For example, a 58-77mm stepping ring will let you use the 77mm filter on a 58mm lens, and will also reduce the chance of vignetting.

Ah yes i never thought about stepping rings atom. The filters on that website are made from glass and only £20. I'm not over bothered about colour casts as i will be using the filter for mono images.
