What Canon compact(ish) for my wife?

Evening all,

I want to get my long-suffering wife a new camera for our upcoming wedding anniversary. She currently has a Canon Ixus 55 that she's happy with but it doesn't really cut the mustard anymore quality-wise, so I want to get her a new one. I'd prefer to stick with a Canon as she knows that, and I've got a Canon SLR, so it makes sense to stick with the brand.

What should I get? Budget is about £200, £250 max. Another Ixus likek the one she has, or something else? It has to be portable, but willing to compromise a bit for better image quality - the quality of the pictures my 450D takes with just the kit lens is in a different league, I'd like to think maybe we could get a bit closer to that? Do let me know if I'm deluding myself

I've had an Ixus 950 IS for 18 months or so and have just upgraded to an EOS 350D, but the Ixus was very good for a rather small compact camera.
