Canon Ixus 55 has just packed up, so what would people recommend as a replacement? confused

Camera will be used for holiday snaps, the odd track day pic and some stills of car parts etc for forum posts.

It will be used by amateur photographers so needs to be a point and shoot without too much fiddling.

Would like it to be 5 megapixel at least, but I guess most will be now anyway.

Would also like a good zoom, either optical or digital (or I guess detailed enough that you can zoom in without detail loss once the photo has been taken).

As for budget, anything up to £150 I guess, but the cheaper (without compromising ability), the better. smile

Thanks in advance for any advice offered. smile

I have a Lumux, I think it's a TZ4. It's pretty decent for a p+s at that sort of money. I wouldnt want to rely on it at a track day though, shutter lag and not great at full zoom. Everything else it should do fine with

Thanks for the info. smile

What do people think of the Canon Ixus range? I've only really experienced those cameras and was thinking of upgrading to the 90, but are there better compacts out there? confused

I had three Ixus' (Ixi?) before moving up to an SLR - they were all fantastic cameras, although as above, you are likely to see some shutter lag.

Used Canon G7 or a recent Ixus. Depends how spacious your pockets are....

Currently got an IXUS950is as my compact.

I've got to say it's bloody brilliant for not a lot of money (had it about 2 years now). Compared to some of my mates modern cameras that they've spent similar money on they all state mine produces far better pics under any conditions.

I may be biased though as I do like my Canon cameras.

I've got a Lumix DMC-TZ5 and it's excellent though may be a little over budget, I paid £220 with a 1Gb card.

PM me your email and I'll send you a few samples, I can't be arsed with uploading and posting links.
