I've had a hankering to try out some simpler film cameras, and was toying with the idea of Bronicas / Mamiyas.

Today I've been given a Praktica L2 which has an M42 mount. It must be a sign...

Anyone recommend me some good 28mm - 35mm - 50mm primes using the M42 mount ? (I'll limit the price range to <£150)
Any of you guys use a 2nd hand seller frequently ?

Thanks in advance

Bought an M42 adapter for my Sony A300 a few weeks ago.

So far I have:

Optomax 85-205 zoom lens for under £5 on eBay - Not fantastic quality but it has let me play with a zoom lens and it has given me a few decent shots.

Industar 50-2 off an old Zenit - Decent quality but not quite as sharp as the Sony kit lens so doesn't really help me. Wouldn't recommend it.

And today I ordered a Helios-44-2 for £10 because I wanted to try out a fast(er) lens - F/2 as opposed to F/3.5-5.6 on the 18-70mm kit lens. Most reviews of this lens look promising smile.
If I find I enjoy using a fast(ish) prime lens I'll move on to a Minolta AF 50mm F/1.7 - but at a tenth of the price I had to try an M42 manual focus lens first!

I think you should limit your price range a bit more. £150 would buy a bucket of M42 primes on eBay hehe

I must say thanks v much for the kind offers. Very generous of you.

I have a v fast Canon lens (f/1.2) and I thought I might get a Canon to M42 adaptor just to see what it looks like on 35mm - incredibly shallow dof.

So Ebay sounds like it is the place to find M42 gems.
Thanks.
