Looking for a cheap HD camcorder to capture everyday laughs on the odd roadtrip - nothing special really.

Any reccomendations before I buy one that looks nice ;-) - there are so many different models out there and my knowledge on camcorders is nil.

Would like it to work with a mac...

To narrow it down a bit looking for one of the Flip HD or similar?

Would 720 be good enough or does full 1080 make a big difference?

Seen one in Maplins today - go onto Maplins.co.uk and search for N75GJ.

Says it's a full HD 1080p camcorder. It's £149.99.

No idea how good/bad it is though.

Do you know if that works with a Mac? I think it may just be windows?

The files are .avi
I don't use a Mac but I'm sure there shouldn't be a problem as windows uses Quicktime & that's an Apple programme.

This is pasted directly from Quicktime:
QuickTime is Apple's award-winning, industry-leading software architecture for creating, playing and streaming digital media for Mac OS and Windows.

Just to clarify, the one listed on eBay is EXACTLY the same as mine. You can pick up spare batteries for it on eBay too (often with an extra charger) & they're not at all expensive.

The OEM disc that came with the recorder is for windows XP or Vista, however the disc only contains software to edit the video's & this software is generalisised a & available for Mac, in fact you probably already have a .avi player & editing suite on your mac ie; QuickTime.

Simply use the memory card in a card reader and plug it into your Mac!

Just a tip on eBay - if you havn't already done so, bid on the item with just 10 seconds left to end of auction. That way you will only pay the maximum amount without getting into a drawn out bidding war & often it won't give anyone else time to react & outbid you.

I paid £70 for mine & IMHO it was money very well spent.
