Is there anyway I can prevent people downloading my images from this site or Flickr???
I thought I knew what I was doing, I now only upload small res. pictures, copyright protected, have my website name on the outer edge of the picture. Then I get a call from a fellow Pistonheader saying he had downloaded one of my images of his mate driving an Italian convertable, and he was going to make a canvas print of the image.
A couple of things which has @issed me off, are the fact that he is prepaired to use a low res image of my picture, so the print quality would be iffy, I am trying to make money out of photography, and his mate can afford to splash out £5million for his 'Italian convertable' so surely he could afford to get a decent canvas from me and not down load a low res ( low grade image ) .
Your thoughts would be most welcome
Jon

Only use low resolution images on the net as when someone goes to print or use it elsewhere, if it's enlarged then it'll look crap.
YES Exactley!!!, that is why I uploaded low res images. The offender is fully aware that it's low res. and I would have prefered him to give me the money to get a 'quality canvas' printed then a low res image grabbed off the net. I think he's waisting his money.Sent a load of images to Chris with his car, but again low res stuff.

Stop putting them on there.Or employ somebody to search for unauthorised use of your work and sue/invoice the culprits accordingly.
I have googled my name and my images, and there are a lot that have been down loaded. One cheeky bugger even downloaded an image of mine from Flickr and used my image in his profile. I threatened to sue and reported him to Flickr, who closed his account down,

Why did Chris tell you he'd stolen your photo? Most thieves like to cover their tracks. Sounds like a bit of a tool.
I think his friend stole it not whoever this Chris bloke is
If this is the same £5m car I am thinking I would have thought that the owner would be interested himself?
Or is his mate stepping in to beat the OP to it?

Just change your settings to say only you can download them. It's in your profile. This has nothing to do with Chris using my images.

Several thoughts from me:
Maybe as digital photographers and web 2.0 websites become more ubiquitous, so making money from photography becomes less of a good idea?
Maybe Flickr isn't the best website to use...you can create lower res thumbnails on different photography websites I would've thought. The smallest Flickr images are quite big.
Canvases by nature don't need higher res images and you can get some good results with small canvases and 72dpi images.
The other way of looking at is, to be flattered that someone wants to use your work, get them to take a photo of the canvas on their wall and use that to show that you have customers who like what you do.
Or...offer him for £10 an unwatermarked version, same size, so at least you get something from this.
Don't get mad, get even.

taking a look at the OP's site, for f
ks sake, can you lose the f
king music that loops and loops - when playing my own music, it is really f
king annoying to have it playing over the top
nice set of pictures, here is one from his website, notice that there is no copyright listed on the photo

but this one has a tag on it, adobe flash player can be annoying, but it does not stop the photos being borrowed

If Jon wants to know how the pictures were taken from his site, feel free to ask, there is no protection against downloading the pictures afaik
