Careful - unless all your lenses are AF-S then they wont work with a D40. The D40 has no on board focus screw drive.
They will work, you just have to focus them manually!Bought one before xmas for £215 and possibly one of the best bargains I've ever nabbed.
Shame it's stealing all my beer money for lenses now.
Must. Have. Sigma 10-20.

Bump for this one - are Nikon phasing it out slowly?
Any announcements or anything?
Glancing through a digital photography mag in tescos - not sure which one im afriad - it didn't even list the d40 in its back few pages (you knwo where they have the comparison charts and all that)
I needed to replace one a couple of weeks ago, Jessops Chester were under the impression that it's now EOL so any in shops will be old stock. Any announcements or anything?

Nikon have press conferences scheduled for July 30th and August 4th, speculation is that one of those dates is for the launch of a camera (D3000) to replace either the D40, D60 or both. So yeah, it's quite possible that the D40 has silently been discontinued in preparation.
Keep in mind that Nikon have a habit of not delivering anything for a while after an announcement, so while it might be worth waiting, you might just want to keep looking for a D40 somewhere.
