I bought a 450d about 9 months ago with the standard lens kit and then got a few others (zoom and macro) to go with it.

Its a fantastic camera of that there is no doubt and all in all it exceeds my abilities and always will due to my time constraints now.

So I am faced with a situation where I get frustrated because I cant just "whip" it out - have to plan taking it. Thus miss allot of good snaps because frankly I cant be bothered with the whole bag/kit/choose lens.

Secondly given my abilities I either take absolute cruddy pics trying to be clever or just end up with something that one the face of it I could of taken with a much lesser camera.

So my question is - has anyone else faced similar situation and are there smaller friendlier cameras for those with a lack of time and ability that would be a worth replacement?

I generally keep my 'BIG' camera in the car so that it's always in the same place as me, but I appreciate that there's no crime here, and that most people couldn't do that... but in the boot is an option if it's insured (?).

I've been on the hunt for a decent P&S for ages (for landscapes, not portraits) and got the Leica D-4Lux recently, which is good enough (and small enough) to take with me when I'm out and about and can't be arsed with the big bag.

I have a canon powershot G10 for photo opportunities where my SLR is too big to lug around. It takes cracking shots.

It's hard to find a satisfactory compact when you're used to the performance of as DSLR. After much pondering I chose a Leica C-Lux 2 for snaps (although I agree the equivalent Panasonic would probably do effectively the same job).

Whenever I take the big bag out I make sure the camera has the 18-55 lens (most likely to be used) and is set to Av and f5.6 (again, most likely to be used). I've missed a lot of shots when the camera was put away in manual mode with either the really long or really short lens on it.

Yeah I always have the same dilemma lug a bag with the D700 and a couple of lenses and get realy good photos or settle for the convenience of the Powershot and compromise on the photos. I've always hankered after a compact camera with an SLR sized sensor and while the Sigma DP!/2 were dissappointing I've got high hopes for the new Olympus Micro4/3 camera thats due to be launched soon:
