Hi guys, been away for a couple of weeks on the island of the Dominican Republic in the Carribean with my wife Tamar and 1 year old boy Kian. Had a great time with them however was left underwhelmed by m visit to the country mainly due to extreme poverty suffered by so many of the fantastic locals and how obvious they require the average tourists money. Being pestered for your US dollars is something you need to get used to, and quickly.

Very restricted to the photos I took due to looking after the wee dude (who behaved very well indeed) and the few planned excursions we went on.

Here are a few images that i took between the 12th and the 26th of May 2009.

Regards

Gorgeous images, the colours are outstanding. Probably the best work i've seen on here. If you ever feel like sharing some of your editing techniques with us I'd be very appreciative.

What's the Tamron like? In particular focus speed?

Awesome work John smile

Your experience sounds like my trip to Jamacia, US owned bars taking all the money away from the locals. The drug pushing was wearing too, we were offered crack before we even left the airport.

Amazing shots - i'm guessing you went on the big offroad truck excursion?

Amazing trip when i went - really puts you in contact with the locals and drives home how poor they really are.

They're poor - but never once did they seem unhappy. Inspiring stuff.

Really appreciate the comments folks.

Yeh the rural shots were taken on the jeep safari which was excellent, however not for a 13 month old baby to be carried around in. Limited me to only getting a handful of shots also (I'm selfish that way... lol)

As for the Tamron, is an excellent lens. Its obviously not as good as the Canon IS L version however it is reasonably quick indoors and very fast outside. I have been impressed with it however haven't fully stretched its legs yet. I think a decent level body would complement it well, which I don't have at the moment.

Seconded. A lot of good photos there...but that one stood out for me.

Also like the 'blue' street-shot a lot.
