I've not had my dslr long and have only just started playing around with different settings. Was just wandering what people thought of this and what I could do to improve it. The thing that bugs me most is the blurred number plate. Should I use a slightly quicker shutter speed? what post processing would you do on this?

A faster shutter speed would reduce or eliminate the blurring of the car but at the expense of doing the same to the background which is clearly the effect you are trying to achieve and almost succeeding. I'd say you've got two options - either practice your panning technique until you achieve the desired result or up the shutter speed and cheat in Photoshop to blur the background and wheels. As for post-processing, you could selectively use the unsharp mask to reduce the blurring of the car but, in my experience, you'll not succeed in getting it to look how it should.

Practise panning. When you took the photo the number plate moved relative to your panning so it was blurred. Depending on the zoom used and the relative motion of the car you may always end up with something on the car that is blurred (and more blurred as you get away from the centre of the shot)

Try taking a burst of shots as the first one is usually crap and subsequent ones are better.

I was on the way back from a job in London sitting in the back as a passenger, playing around with the settings and all of a sudden saw this so it was a really rushed, unplanned shot so maybe in future they will come out better when im anticipating it.

Thanks for the advice
