The Good Beach Guide 2009 came out today and not one of these beaches was mentioned. Why? Because they've never been to any of them!

Good beach my @rse.

You can't kid us Steve, we all know the reason they're not featured is because you've had to photoshop the icebergs out! biglaugh

Nope - it's because there's no space left for sun-bathing due to the tripod and a certain dog running round wink

As far as photography goes, I can generally live without 'landscapes rolleyes' but yours do 'get' to me smile.

Having visited Tallisker Bay today on Skye it was particularly stunning, and with it being a walk to get to it from the nearest road it means it's quieter than most of the other beaches around smile

I hope you are going to make a website of all these jumps Baz... it's a great idea.

I'll be sorting out a page on my website when I get some time back home, it's been great fun - even Mrs Baz joined in at Tallisker Bay with a few jumps too smile

...meant to also say, we passed up through Shieldaig and Torridon on Thursday around 5pm just when the heavens opened up, have some shots from the hills looking down onto Loch Torridon but not much more - somewhere we definitely have penciled in on the plans for the main summer holibags in August, we just need to pre-book the golden ball in the sky to get shots of it in all it's glory.

Yesterday on Skye we couldn't have asked for a better day - I'm now sporting a nice suntan and Mrs Baz has some sunburn smile

Whilst on Harris and Lewis - today I've felt like the creepy coupe from Wacky Races. The rain's followed me whereever I went. At the bottom of Harris - torrential. Drive up to Callinish - torrential but wisely the sheep are cowering in doorways, old vans etc anything to get out of the rain. So I head up to Ness - where it's raining with a vague tint of colour in the sky. Head down to Stornoway - where it's raining. Dejected I head back to where I'm wild camping and it's glorious. More rain is expected though...

Nope - on the side road to Lusantyre which according to Mr GPS is presently 57, 52.655N 6, 55.784W

Stayed in various spots along that stretch - lovely watching the sun going down and then getting woken up with the torrential rain or in this mornings case - 5am wakeup call with gales blowing down the estuary. biggrin

I'm kind of glad those beaches didn't make the book. Worth keeping to ourselves.. oh and the thousands of others who have visited.

According to the EXIF: Shutter priority 220mm F9 at 4000th of a second - the crucial bit is it was at ISO 2000 (good old un-noisy D3). If It had been with my D2x, I would have kept the 4000th bit, but the camera would have gone down to about F5.6 (at 400 or 800 ISO) - those bu66ers don't half flap fast, I took some at 2000th sec and they were out of focus.

More from the day on Barra here: http://www.stevecarter.com/barra/barra.htm

Edit for crap spelling

Great shot of Charlie. I was there over Easter. Have to say its one of the most stunning places I've been. Glas its not in all the guide books. Blessed a little by the weather though. Here's some of mine:

Luskentyre Beach

A very empty Scarista beech - although it was bloomin cold

Another from Scarista - perfect beach?

Another from Luskentyre

Dunes on Luskentyre

And its not always sunny

Yup Steve - wet wasn't the phrase I had in mind..

I could have walked across the estuary when the tide was in and been drier. Never mind that's Scotland for you.

I'm convinced now that I'm back that this trip should never have taken place.

I was camping near the Kyle of Lochalsh the night before the ferry - some nice flowers by the side of the road. Goes to get the camera and it comes up with ERROR99 !! Go through the motions of potential fixes - nope - dead as a dodo. I even got one of my friends to seek out an old firmware version and then download that 9Mb file on dialup to see if that may give me some shots. Nope. Then I chipped a tooth on the Friday. Then the filling that was in that tooth came out on the Saturday. I gave up and booked the first ferry on Monday to get off and headed to the East coast.

Luckily I had my old 20D with me. (complete with dust on the sensor as I found out later) so it was called into action.

The weather on the Friday afternoon when I arrived was gorgeous.

Leaving the Ferry Port at Tarbert

Big size is here 12mb in size.

Headed down to Luskentyre.

Large size is here 3Mb

This is where I camped and what appears to be the other side of that sign.

This was Saturday mornings drizzle / rain and wind

That's about it - too wet to do anything apart from brew up tea and coffee oh and have a sample or two of my Monkey Shoulder. I'll be back up in August.

1800 miles for a couple of photos and about 4 hours of nice weather.
