I've got the Sigma but the APO version (which is slightly better than the non-APO). If you're on a budget it will be about the best you'll get for little money.
The APO is FAR better than the non apo. Great value for money. The non-apo stinks though I'm afraid. Can post some purple-fringe tastic images up later if you like.R1chy11 said:
Just out of interest, I need a zoom lens on a very tight budget for the moment. is the sigma 70-300 useless after around 200 without a tripod?
Contrary to what the marketeers would have you believe, it is still possible to take take a photo without VR/IS! All you need to do, taking your 200mm focal length as an example, is make sure the shutter speed is 1/250th second or above and use good technique. For 300mm, use 1/320th second or faster, and so on. If necessary, you can open the aperture or increase ISO to achieve this if required, or find a handy tree, wall or fence to lean on.R1chy11 said:

Any advice would be great. I intend to upgrade in a few months but for now this is about the only option.
What camera fitting? I have the 70-300 APO in a Nikon fitting that I very seldom use that I was going to Ebay - it could fit your budget?Any advice would be great. I intend to upgrade in a few months but for now this is about the only option.
This was taken using the 300 mm end:
