Hi all.

A week or so ago I dropped my Ixus 950IS, and it incurred a scuff and dent on the base of the case...it continued to work fine regardless.

However, last Friday it developed some focusing issues, and then last night when looking at it in more depth it decided to just stop and the lens is extended and I am unable to get any sense out of it frown

Does it sound like an uneconomical repair to you?

I used the little video function quite a bit, and loved the 'pocket ability' factor.

I may tempt myself for a Lumix LX3, as it is well regarded and does HD video wink

Anyway my main question here is the Canon...to repair or to bin it/sale as broken on Ebay?

Thanks.

Nick

I'd be very suprised if it was servicable. Ebay route sounds like the best option.

Difficult to say but last year an Ixus 70 we had bought recently developed some odd characteristics w/r to when and how it would take a shot and what the lens was doing. It happened to be still under warranty and my daughter was insistent it have not been dropped ...

Anyway, it was indeed fixed very promptly under warranty by www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk/ who provided a very rapid turnaround time. It turned out a connection in the lens system had worked loose.

Of course if you really want a new camera you should just go for it but otherwise get one of the official repairers to give you a considered opinion about whether or not it is worth sending it to them. There is a message link on the site mentioned above.

We have owned 7 Canon Ixus' of which 3 have broken and 1 was nicked the day after we bought it! They are patheticly useless resisting any kind of trauma from the most seemingly insignificant little knock onwards. I returned one of them to Lehmanns, the official Canon repairers but their quote to fix it was almost as much as the cost to replace it . I decided to just replace it. Thing is though they are great little cameras (when working) .

Thanks people.

Well sadly it's in my drawer ready for an ebay sell off as the repair will be uneconomical.

On a brighter note...I bought a new camera! http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUM...

This thing is stunning and it seems too nice to use! Lovely IQ too. Highly recommended.

I have an LX1 and it's great -- have they sorted out the noise problem with the LX3?
