I saw something in a Photography magazine for something that sits on top of the flash slot that is a spirit level - I've googled this with no joy.

Does anyone know of a retailer (or at least a Google search term) I an use for this?

Jessops must sell them. They used to be almost-free, but now sell for around £10.

£24.50 wink I'm guessing it is because it's a Manfrotto one

Jessops do an own brand one for £10 which is OK if you need it now and can't wait for a £5 Ebay special. Who on earth anyone would pay £25 for one is a mystery to me.

How far out are/can hot shoes be? Anyone compared one to a virtual horizon? I'm rather sick and tired of correcting horizons!

Do any manufacturers do an "in vision" one for when you're looking through the viewfinder?

I'm not looking for an aftermarket mod, but I was wondering if Nikon/Sony/Canon integrate this?

I've got one (well two actually) inbuilt to my tripod (Manfrotto) - but I wanted the cheap jobbie for the Leica D-Lux (mostly for vid)

As for inbuilt to the camera... there are interchangeable screens, one of which has lots of horrizontal lines... for exactly that reason.

I've got one on my tripod too, but I've discovered that my ability for holding the camera level is (apparently) piss poor smile

I have a focusing screen in my e-1 with horizontal and vertical lines - I'm sure that the same is available for the canikons of this world.

I realise that it isnt setting a 'proper' horizontal, but it is in your view when composing/shooting.

Nikon D3 and D700 (and probably the D3x) have an inbuilt level, one displays on the exposure meter on the right of the view finder as you look through it, the other shows on the rear display. It only shows info for rotation along the axis of the lens though (good for horizons).

Or just leave the viewfinder grid switched on, as I do. I regard the 'artifical horizon gyro' as the sort of sexy but ultimately pointless invention they keep piling on to help sell DSLRs to those who buy the longest features list.

Nor me, though I appreciate that for some people it IS desirable, and video can't be done by invoking any other function.
