Hi,

I'm usually found in biker banter, just got the above as part as a insurance claim, are they any good, reliable, last, problems etc.

Cheers in advance

I have one of these. I paid £225 for it around Xmas.
Its my first DSLR and as such its a good piece of kit.

I have lots to learn.

Dunno what age group you are, but they're a bit of a Honda Super Dream really. They're bolted together quite well, will get you from A to B, won't mind a few bashes to the plastic, although nearer the disposable end of the scale than Mad Max, won't set the world alight, and are already a bit dated and lacking the latest bolt-ons, cruise control, built in armchair and stereo.

You can't really go wrong, will let you learn how to get your knee down, and there aren't any known big issues to put you off, but you wouldn't want to load one up with too many paniers and tank bags and expect an exotic road trip to be easy.

I predict you'd really want to move on to a Ducati/Harley/Buell before too long and be forever hankering after new leathers too.

A D40 is a decent starer camera - I've got one and I love it - it is, however, taking a lot of restraint to NOT buy a new body for the kit I already have.

So far I've bought a sligshot bag, a SB600 flash and I have a 55-200 lens - And am looking at/for a prime lens now....

Worth it as a good beginner - I actually saw it in PC world today for £199 too....

Thanks guys, and beano that was one of the best posts I've read.

I think the D40 will be more than good enough for my level as I'm a complete beginer, and yes the knee down is a sore point, thanks again

Try www.kenrockwell.com

Some people love him, some hate him, but he is a true D40 fan.

I have a D40, 18 - 200, sigma 1.4 / 30mm. Great camera.

What would you recommend if I want to be slightly less blatant in my stalking? wink
