Hi, just bought a Sigma 10-20 and I know that its a popular lens on here so am just after some filter advice.

Will Circular Polarising filters work ok on this, have seen some 77mm Hoya green package ones for a reasonable price but also the 77mm purple ones for a lot lot more! Is there a big difference?

Also would a wide angle holder and some Cokin P ND filters work ok with it?

Thanks
James

Typicaly a polariser gives a very uneven effect across the sky at ~10mm often resulting in a near black patch. It can work and its worth using a CPL sometimes, but with restraint.

A cokin P 82mm will vignette and often get the holder in shot at ~10mm, theres a special wide angle holder which I havnt tried.

yep the lens vignettes with a hoya purple polariser at the wider angles. Or at least the polarising effect is patchy / inconsistent across the frame. I stopped using a polariser.

Thanks for that guys, do you know if a square polariser using a holder would work at all?

I'm not sure which Hoya Polariser I've got, but it's the one that's around £60 or so. I've had absolutely no problems with it on my Sigma 10-20.
