had a play with the new 500D today , first impressions are that it is in the same mould as the 450D ie light and plastic almost toy like !, hope to take some shots tomorrow so will try and post some up, but on first impressions does not feel like a £900 camera !

we will see how it performs and i will try a comparison with a D90 which i think is its closest rival

stay tuned canon fanboys smile

900 quid?!

What does this camera give over the 350/450d? 900 sounds a hell of a lot, thats 5dmk1 territory!

Normally 'unboxed' in the thread title does imply there will be some photos.

HD Film quality ... Yawn

I personally feel the 500d has no warrant on a price increase of double.

A 450d body is around £450 - I would like to see a direct comparison

Why do some people have this view that in order for a camera to feel expensive, it has to be a big, heavy, clunky house brick?

I looked at the 40D and the 450D side by side when buying. The 40D didn't feel any better or worse to me in terms of quality, it just felt needlessly big. It would've required me to take an extra bag with me on business trips if I'd wanted to take it, so it ruled it out of contention for me.

Seems to me that if you're used to Nikons, Canons feel light and flimsy. If you're used to Canons, Nikons feel bulky and clumsy.

This may be true, but I've not tried a Nikon. My comparison was between two Canons! hehe
