I want to start taking a few model shots, pictures of cars, buildings that sort of thing.

What's the best way to get decent results? At the moment I have a 10mp digital camera and some extremely basic photo editing stuff that came free on my macbook.

It would be nice to be able to take proper photographs of people/stuff in my life and keep a record. Plus I get to use the excuse of modelling to get hordes of naked students in my 'studio' hehe

Not interested in doing it for money, just pleasure, and the ability to get a bit creative.

Can good technique be learnt on basic equipment or do you need lighting, backdrops etc to create good photos? smile

Buy the Digital Photographer's Handbook by Tom Ang. Amazon will sort you out.

Read it - and try doing the projects he suggests.

It's fun and you will learn a lot. It's what I am doing. The pictures are getting better. Not a competition winner by a long way but I'm having fun.
