Hi,
I would like to know if anyone can recommend an external mic for my Samsung camcorder.

I would use it for trackdays and really want to run it nearer to the back of the car to
pick up louder exhaust/engine noise. I usually mount the camcorder on or near the front window
and am happy with the video but the soundtrack is too quite. Presumably I would also need some
kind of extension cable or are there such things as wireless mics?

thanks, Barry

Wireless mics are going to be about £300, but they are normally used for voice, so the capsule on the mic might not be suitable for a car due to the frequency range.

We use a condenser mic from Maplin with some fairly good leadage on it. Can't vouch how it work for your use though.

Best chance, buy it, test it, take it back if not good enough?

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go.

I found the opposite problem when using a good mic'.
I had to introduce a pad to lower the signal to avoid it distorting the input on the camcorder.

I used a Rode NT4. It is a stereo mic and I use it still for recording piano!
