Need new batteries for the 40D, where to buy?
Discussion
Hello,
Just picked up a grip for the 40D and wondered where the best place to buy batteries was? It's the BP-511, and Jessops wanted £79 for the Canon one.
Anyhow, I'm not too fussy about being Canon branded, but any recommendations on where to buy/what's the best aftermarket ones, make would be superb!
Cheers,
Neil.
p.s. Did a search, and couldn't find much on here.

Thanks, I'm just not sure if any of these are good or not. I have been around various sites, looking at various aftermarket ones, and the last thing I want is for a dodgy battery to blow up (hence asking for non-canon-brand recommendations).
Do you mean you want a battery made by Duracell or a company like that? If so, then I've never seen a camera battery that is branded by such a company; it's either the camera manufacturer or a 'no-name' one.4hero said:
Sam, I'm really just looking for a decent battery that is not Canon. I've seen ones at a fiver each, but are these any good?
Just looking for something that isn't going to melt/blow up in my camera, that's all
I have an EN-EL4 replacement that I got from 7dayshop. It's absolutely fine. It was something like £17 vs £100 for a Nikon original.Just looking for something that isn't going to melt/blow up in my camera, that's all
I too haven't seen "Duracell" batteries or similar for DSLRs.

Canon advise that only Canon batteries are used because of the risk of non-Canon batteries damaging the camera. I have seen reports of this happening. On the other hand, I have read lots of people saying that they have used non-Canon batteries without problems. I have also used non-Canon batteries without problems (I think I paid about £4). I don't think you are going to find a definitive answer on exactly how risky non-Canon batteries are and I haven't seen any information about whether one type are more risky than another. Up to you whether it's worth the risk.Just looking for something that isn't going to melt/blow up in my camera, that's all
I've used 7dayshop sourced batteries in a variety of cameras and never had a problem. The 400D seems to keep going longer on the cheap substitutes than the original battery. No matter how much you pay or how much you use them the Li-On's seem to fade rapidly once they reach around 18 months of age. So low cost seems to make sense.
