Nice photos. Do you notice any difference in people's reaction to being photographed compared to other places (I seem to recall you posted some photos from India recently, for example)?
well im biased because Japan is my favourite country! Comparing Japan with India is the definitive chalk and cheese situation. I had absolutely no problem with photographing anything in Japan, they are the friendliest and most helpful people I have ever come across.

Hey really nice shots, they look like they're cross processed? There's a few with a green / yellow tinge - is that just the film type you're using?
no, all processed correctly. The castes are from using a daylight balanced film in strong fluorescent (green) or tungsten (yellow) lighting conditions. A digital camera (and your eyes) will cancel that out so it looks more pronounced here, but in fact you could say the colours are more realistic.L4MBOLUV3R said:
you lucky sod! i so want to go there before i die! if your not that keen on the sort of food there can you get western food? its not me by the way, i am no philistine with food but the friends that i would want to take wouldn't eat ramen or sushi
who on earth cant eat ramen??? Yes you can get western food, but I'd suggest to your "friends" (
) that they are missing the point!by the way, for anyone interested in sumo, the wrestler closest to me is Asashoryu

imo fushimi-inari is the only temple worth going to, but then i'm not really a temple sort of person
are you kidding?! the temples are ace! i love tokyo but i think kyoto and 'old japan' is more photogenic and inspirational to me. i still feel like a kid in a sweet shop whenever i'm in japan, so much to look at i don't know where to point my eyes!last trip was mainly tokyo, one before was kyoto and tokyo (and suzuka for super gt racing!), next one will be tokyo and fuji. unfortunately no big races on at fuji circuit but there is some amateur racing which should still be fun.

it is my friends trust me on this one. i will quite happily eat most of gods creatures but my mate lee not so keen but he wants to visit japan with me. i know, ramen is tasty! but you should of seen him struggle in wagamamas when it appeared in front of him lol
hmm if he can't handle wagamama's you might be in trouble....as it's basically already a westernised version of asian food...probably the best way is to make him eat something really exotic. after marinated squid guts and lobster sashimi (that was still twitching), anyhting else is a piece of cake!there are plenty of 'safer' foods like grilled chicken or beef though, and also a few pizza places and so on. but as dcw said, you and your mate should try everything, he might be surprised! i never thought i'd like chicken heart, eel or cow tongue but they're all bloody delicious!

Nice pics...we're heading over there next Thursday!
Any tips / suggestions?
(Accomodation already booked - Hiroshima x2, Kyoto x2, Takayama x2, Tokyo x3, Kyoto x2)
When you go to Hiroshima, try going to Miyajima (Itsukushima). It has a beautiful shrine on the water and the island itself is very nice. Lots of monkeys on the top of the mountain (you can either walk up or use the ropeway but do not eat anything near them as they will steal it!), and deers freely walk around everywhere.

Peace Memorial Park & the Museum are well worth visiting (although very heavy for obvious reasons).
Food-wise, you must try Okonomi-mura. You get the bestest okonomi-yaki in the whole Japan.
Have fun!

For tempura check out Tsunahachi in Shinjuku/Tokyo. You have to queue for the waiting area, it's that popular and the food is Really fresh (prawns, scallops and eel were all killed in front of our eyes). TBH I felt the food was far better here than at Ten-Ichi in Ginza, which is supposedly one of the world's best tempura restaurants. Sure the atmosphere was far more traditional and refined, but the food was not as good, nor moving in plain view of us shortly before being battered.
