Current set-up: EOS 1000D, Osram flash unit (non E-TTL).

I'm happy using the flash on the camera, but I'd like to be able to trigger it off-camera, neither the camera nor flash are wi-fi. All I can find is:

  • the Canon hot shoe extension lead (at 40 quid!!!) - too expensive!
  • the standard Hot Shoe to pc adapter (a tenner) and then a pc lead (another tenner) and then a pc to hot shoe adapter for the other end (yet another tenner)
  • a flash detecting trigger (about 15 quid) but this requires me to get the camera flash to operate which I don't always want to do.
So what are my options? Surely I can get a coiled lead with hot shoe connections at either end for less than 40 pounds.

I bought this on Ebay for £20 including postage. So far, it has been absolutely perfect.

I have to set the flash power manually, but that's a quick and easy trial and error process, and assuming you're shooting in RAW, you don't have to be absolutely spot on anyway.

That looks like just the thing I'm looking for. Any probs getting it from Hong Kong? How long did it take?

I've had a few things from Hong Kong off Ebay. Never any problem with any of them, although they can take 7-10 days or so to arrive. I wasn't charged anything for duty or the like on this one.
