As I said, this month there is only going to be a 1st place no 2nd or 3rds as there were just too many and lets face it only one place counts!
Some great entries from everyone and its good to see such a good entry thread for a change, its been a bit quiet of late. Anyway the winner:
Why did I go for that shot? Well look at it, that is 40 years old and could have been taken yesterday. Its a timeless shot which I just couldnt stop looking at.
Rather than just randoming offer my views on the other shots if you include the image as a THUMB so use [thumb] instead of [pic] or [img] I'll tell you my own thoughts on it. Dont just post the image as if you do you'll just look a bit silly.

As soon as I saw that shot it was going to be very hard for everyone though there were some close runners, even some child shots I actually liked. I will say Yella, your edit has not improved it and as soon as I saw it my heart sank a little. Why did I go for that shot? Well look at it, that is 40 years old and could have been taken yesterday. Well done Yellabelly
As said, nice to see so many entries this month. I struggled to do something different, I was hoping to get another shoot in yesterday as I had some ideas but the model cancelled. I would be interested in a bit of C&C.

I really liked the boxing shot from Wyvern971, the perspective makes the man look like a giant but the woman is laughing in the face of adversity

Now interesting you picked the boxer image, it doesnt fit my own idea of portraiture, its more documentury than portrait. To me a portrait should be first and foremost posed although I do accept there is candid portraitre too, in this instance I just felt it was more documentury.
eta it was going to be harder for the likes of you or scho to do something different as you have your set styles yours being more publicised on here than scho's.

Well done Yellabelly, looking forward to your choice of subject for the new compo.
This must have been a very difficult decision to make Stig, with the huge number of entry’s - far more than normal so well done to everyone. Portraits is something I just don’t do, or have never tried TBH. But I really enjoyed having a go. I use the monthly comp as a project to push me into trying something new.
Come on Stig pic a 2nd & 3rd

Well done the winner, that picture is amazing!! But then I thought a most were. I am pleased you explained your reasoning, I was going to ask if there was a criteria for judging, ie subject/technique or just managing to stay within the theme, which I dont think I did
is it sad that I am getting excited about what this months theme will be?

I dont know if it fits the theme firstly, and if it's a bit too cuteHoly .....! many thanks Stig especially the comment.
The standard of entry was superb and there were some stunning portraits that I was really taken with, Scho with catchlights at 8 & 5 or not stunning, John185k, the photo of the lad is superb, Nick, on the button as ever but Wyvern971's photo made me grin.....a lot.
Well done everyone, in such an entry I feel privileged.......Wife is rather pleased too!
Any way to the subject of the next competition
