Has anybody else ever experienced this?

My 2 year old non-abused S70 suffered from this, and although there are a few fixes that may or may not work, it didn't work for me. I tried to take it apart but I have a feeling I must have killed it with static or something as it doesn't power up at all now. Annoyed with myself as it's definitely dead now, and I didn't manage to get it apart properly anyway...

Looking here:

it appears I am not the only one - 6700 odd people have suffered it over pretty much every Canon compact. I'm sure some will be due to abuse (dropping on the lens for example), but surely this can't be the case with all of them. I know mine was looked after carefully, I might have looked into pressing Canon for a goodwill repair if I hadn't gone and knackered it completely myself! hehe

Looks like there is a class action being considered.

I have to say that my experience of Canon compacts is not a good one - my S70, my wife's low use A70 is misbehaving (apparently a "known problem" for which there is a recall affects most of their cameras from this time!), an Ixus that she bought to replace it that had to be returned, and another Ixus seems to be a ticking timebomb from that e18 website!

Not sure I'll buy another frown
