I want to take some rig shots but don't have any of the rig equipment, or any idea of a good uk-based resource for info and hardware (rigshots.com.au is good but aus based). To begin with I only want to do partial shots, so I don't need massive boom arms or multiple weapons-grade suction cups, just a simple-but-sturdy suction cup inc vacuum gauge with a short (1'-2') arm and some way to mount a camera. I've seen a shot on here of someones setup which looked ideal but can't recall who or find the thread.

Any ideas?

www.fastfilms.co.uk

I got a suction cup mount from there which has been good for a few shots:

They do from the basic suction mounts right up to the full-on rigs.

I bought a 3 suction cup rig set from B-Hague - lots of various camera support stuff available there;

I then added longer poles bought from a metals merchant - some more info on it here:

And some example pics:

With hindsight I wouldn't buy that same kit again. I believe that a two cup rig with a single boom arm is a better solution all round. Had I known of this thread on POTN before I bought, I'd have saved a few quid and ended up with a better rig.

Even if the car and cups are squeaky clean, can this still damage the paint in any way?

The only time I've seen or heard of damage caused is when the cup is placed on a sticker, or protective film. On to paint it might leave a ring but it's very easily polished off.

only thing I've heard is you have to be extremely careful doing this on aluminium bodied cars as the softer panels can be creased/bent easily...
