Hi guys

Was playing around with my camera over the weekend and figured i'd check out the Timelapse mode. Luckily as its a mode it pretty much did everything for me, but still as a camera newbie i was quite chuffed with the results.

Day turning to night last night, taken off my balcony.

Went out for a drive in the MX5 yesterday, hooked up my Manfrotto camera mount. I really like this, but didnt come out as good as i'd hoped, the crappy East London scenery doesn't help, and i feel its a little too fast.

any comments or hints welcome.

They look good - been meaning to play with that mode on mine. Shame you're limited to just 1 or 2 seconds between frames - for something like the MX5 one it could do with more that that. Could work very nicely if you try it again when the sun's going down.

fantastic stuff!
i had some software called 'handyAVI' to do simliar usiing my webcam but it was a trial version so expired after 30 days and i'm skint so couldn't afford it.
shame there isn't some 'completely free' software out there to do the same.
i think i set it at 1 frame every 1/4 second and got some great results.

cheers guys. I did get up at 6am this morning to try and catch the sunrise, then i was gonna blend them together, but there was no sunrise this morning, will try again tomorrow.

With the MX5 one, that was more of a trial. Am off on a Roadtrip round Europe and the Alps later in the year, so will get some practice in and hopefully get some better results. I ike the idea of doing it as the sun sets.

cheers!

i like the car time lapse- your right, pherhaps a little fast, feels like camera could have been higher or lower, so you could see the horizon? nice choice in music

I did something similar with my nikon d40, only the software had run out of trial period on my laptop, so i just sat inthe back seat holding the button down!

www.peterford.co.uk - you can see the results in the banner at the top

I think I had a 1 second exposure. mines a bit fast too, i think 0.5 sec would be optimal

Good work.

If your static one had had a few clouds it would have been more dramatic. I was lucky in that respect... it was all four seasons in 24 hours!

Cheers everyone, have now tried to extend the Thames Barrier one with a sunrise, but there was no sunrise, so i caught it becoming light. think i prefer the original to be honest.

Get Carter - what you've done looks awesome, that was exactly what i was hoping to get, the clouds rolling over look amazing. will have to give mine another go when the weather's better.

Fordo - loving your banner. will have another go at night time, see if i can get the same streaming lights effect. I used this mount "Pump Cup with Double Ball Tilt Top Head" on this page http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/camera-suction-mounts.p... and i do have an extension for it, so will have another go as i know what your saying, mine focuses on the inside of the car as opposed to where its going.

Music on the Thames Barrier one is a guy called Ben Westbeech, brilliantly chilled out music, love it.

hahaha - so true! I do take it out to the country for its birthday and other special occasions.

Just wandering, a mate of mine has a Canon Eos 50D, and wants to do some Timelapse videos, what software will he need to create it?
cheers

Another thumbup to the thames barrier - the MX5 one just made me dizzy smile

Are you able to get times/dates of when the barriers actually move? Now that would be cool...

i have got involved in timelapse at work and have tried many different methods i currently have 6 cameras recording construction projects 1 standard video, 2 HD videos and 3 Cannon 5D's the videos are being recorded to external drives and the 3 SLRs are all computer controlled. Unfortunatly most of the footage is still classified so hasnt reached the public domain yet but im sure it will in time.
The footage from the latest project which will be a world leading reaserch facility will be used all over the world!!
We have come across many problems, the HD videos are great but increadably memory intensive, the standard video works well but is low quality and the SLRs give great results when they work!! we are working on some new control software for the G9's which will hopefully illiminate the camera lock up problem we have. i will try and get some samples released from work soon. if people need any info on long term timelapses let me know.

OilyRagMan - if thats your job you are one lucky man. In fact most of you guys in this forum, i spent 5 years of my life studying media studies to get involved with this kind of work, then i dropped out for no reason, was my biggest regret ever. But on a positive note, now i get to use it as my escape, my way of getting away from work, so always good.

That LA - NY video is what inspired me to do mine, absolutely love that video, especially the music

if you ask me, you did the right thing!

I work as a cameraman, and the pay is awful, considering what I do is highly skilled and i need a very broad range of knowledge- editing programs, motion graphics, photography, lighting, not to mention all the different recording formats and broadcast related hardware etc etc, and i have to work very long unsociable hours.

and my job has no security

The trouble is, apparently theres more people studying now to do media related degrees, than there are actual jobs in the media industry!
