Use photobucket occasionally for hosting pics, and never really investigated flickr.

Am I really missing out? Does one get much extra over accounts elsewhere?

Flickr is all about the "community". In practice this is mostly (in my experience) a giant love-in where groups of people (read cliques) all comment on each other's photos in a desperate attempt to make the Explore pages, or otherwise scores of men fawn hopelessly over female photographers.

I don't really use it for hosting myself (I have my own dedicated host) but I've been guilty of group whoring my photos in an attempt to get comments etc, it's quite addictive but ultimately a bit soul destroying.

Always make sure you read the small print on any hosting site. This was discussed a couple of years ago (?) and some of the sites actually ask you to give up copyright of your images when you host with them. Worth double-checking. I have got a Flickr account but never use it. I don't like it.

I swaped from photobucket to flickr and I love flickr shows the photos much better and you can make your photos private so other people cant see them.

Wow. I think that's the best description of Flickr i've read! And yup, even though I use photobucket for cataloguing hi-res images, I'm guilty of whoring myself on Flickr too biggrin
