Wireless flash trigger advice please
Discussion
Just wondering could someone clarify what the story is with these wireless units. I have seen some people using them here and just wondering how does the transmitter piece know when to send a signal to fire the flash at the correct time? Is there a place of contact with the hotshoe on the camera?
Camera I am using is a 450d btw and using a speedlight 430ex II. Cheers in advance.

For a bit more cash you could get yourself an ST-E2.
That will remotely fire your 430EX without having to attach any gizmos to it, and give you an excellent focus assist on the camera at the same time...
Bit more expensive than the ebay wireless kits at around £100, but the focus assist you get is well worth it in some situations...

I've had an ST-E2 for a while, probably works better than I expected tbh given it's line of sight restriction. Have just got hold of a set of ebay triggers like those above and only had a quick play with them over a short range but they seem to work well. The only time one of the flashuns didn't fire was because I hadn't allowed enough time for it to recycle - the batteries were low.
I have a 430EX II flash too, so thought about the ST-E2. In the end I went for the e-bay radio triggers (not the same, but similar to the ones your considering) because they are so much cheaper and give the benefit on non line of sight operation. Also I had an old, non Canon flash gun, so I bought a 2nd radio receiver giving me a dual off camera flash set up.
If you buy the ST-E2, you're limited to (more expensive) Canon flash guns when you want to expand.
On the other hand the ST-E2 allows TTL metering and other functionality. You just have to find the bit of kit that fits your needs and budget.
