Not even a modern one with VR, AF et cetera - try handholding one of those! And spot the dof scale!

Fleabay listing here

By the way - they can be had for about half that price, when they ever come up for sale....

O/T I know but why don't modern lenses have a DoF scale any more?

Wild guess - anything to do with two-ring zooms? On a prime lens you can indicate DOF on the focus scale, on a one-touch zoom you can indicate it with curved lines - but on a two-ring zoom lens there's nowhere to put it which can cater for the change in DOF as focal length changes...

(I stand to be corrected however...)

Talking of DOF scales, I used to do infra red photography in my film days (F90X etc. with red filter) but haven't thought about trying it in digital. What about the f stop and DOF adjustments there? I now use a D3.

Unless IR light has changed, I'd have thought it's the same. More importantly, the anti-alias filter may block IR - some DSLRS are better than others. IIRC the D70 is quite good at IR. I've seen websites showing how you can take your camera apart and remove the filter, if you're feeling brave enough!

Well DoF Scales would be hard to do when cameras have varying sensor sizes eh.

Go on then, what would be worth that much?...

I'd have a 28mm f/1.4, mind you I know even those are not THAT good for the money, and a 200-400mm and still have change!

I think Canon did a special 350D with reduced filtering for the photo-astronomy crowd.

I meant two lenses totally that amount. AFS 500 f4 VR & AFS 300 f2.8 VR and after lugging those around, use the change for an osteopath. smile

Save the osteopath fees and buy the 200/400. I wouldn't be without it! (OK, OK, f4 not f2.8 but I can put up with that for the convenience!)
