On taking the last shot of Venice, the "card full" message appeared and the lens cover stayed open. Wifey said it has happened before but try as I might, I can't get the lens cover to close as it should when the camera is shut down.

I have tried removing the battery and restarting the camera and also changed the card but it remains open. Was it coincidence that it happened when the "card full" message appeared or is there a system restore thingy what will solve it? The camera has taken about 3000 shots in the last 5 years so perhaps it is just goosed. Still works OK otherwise.

Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong or what it might cost to fix? I paid £240 for it and now similar cameras can be had for £99!

Cheers

If it powers up you could try and upload a later versionof the firmware (if there is one). Might just be a mechanical prob though, in which case you've had it.

I now see that Fuji are offering to take broken cameras in part exchange for a new model. Mine is worth £36 as a part ex. I paid £240 for it 5 years ago.
It has been great until now.

What to do?

Unfortunately a lot of consumer kit is now built to be consumable and not last. To be honest getting 5 years use is pretty good depending upon how well you have looked after it. Worth asking how much it would be to examine the camera and see if it really is stuffed or not, often the repair costs are disproportinate to replacement though frown

Ultimately cameras (esp compacts) have moved on an awful lot in 5 years so if it is stuffed I'd bite the bullet, do a bit of invesigation and then replace with what fits your needs and take the trade in if you want another Finepix.

IIRC this happend to my Works camera, sent it back for repair then took out a £17 a year insurance cover.

AFAIK it's still going, over 5 years old now.

However I'm no longer with the company, so I don't keep tabs on it anymore.

Thanks to all for your responses.

Fuji offer a standard repair price of...........£89.99. Sheesh.

I suspect they would just bin it and send me a new one. I guess it's the trade-in option.

Thanks again.
