SWMBO is looking at getting me a day/weekend photo course as a b'day present. So, I've been looking around to try to see what takes my fancy. I haven't been able to find any recommendations on here (or, the search facility hasn't wink) so, have any of you done one, what did you think and what was covered?

Ideally I'd like to do a course that can help me improve my landscapes (main other interest would be architecture) possibly mixed in with some editing assistance. I've found one course that may be ideal but rather putting the link here I'd rather know of others first.

Any assistance, advice etc would be appreciated. A free weekend, all expenses paid, instruction included, food and lodging in/around my "Steve Carter Land" is also acceptable wink

Highly recommended... even better if you take up their late availability half price courses. Does assume you're a Canon user though...

Ok on that front! Thanks Podie. Will have a look
[edited to say that on initial glance, they don't seem to offer a landscape experience (except the waterfalls). Will have a proper look though.]

I've done a couple of the Jessops day courses a while back (at their main place in Leicester) and found them helpful and good value. First I did a "beyond the basics" course which was entirely classroom based, the second one I did was the flash & portraiture course which was a good mix of classroom and a practical session.

My wife went to the peak district with these guys: The Peak Photo Centre http://www.peakphotocentre.com/. She went for landscape and photoshop course for 4 days, but they do landscape only courses as well. She really enjoyed it and got some great shots too. I looked at going on one but they're pretty expensive now - so I plumped for an OU course instead which I start in October smile

They're the ones I had looked at. Certainly look good but, as you say, a bit expensive. However, at least there's real time in the field with them.

Although I'd still aim to do an 'experience' course, the OU course sounds interesting - I hadn't really thought about them - up to now I had considered evening courses at colleges etc - have you any details?

The course T189 is basic, but for me I think its probably a good thing to makesure I have all the bases covered - I think there's quite a few things I'm missing. I'm hoping that it forces me to get the basics right. Its 10 weeks long £175 (a lot less if you use tesco club card vouchers) and you become a student so you're able to get student discounts on software. Details are here.

I'm so pleased to find this thread ! I hadn't thought of doing a course through the OU, even though I've done courses with them before. I've been looking for a local course and not having much luck - the OU one seems perfect for what I want. Closing date is today though for the October course so I'm going to have to save up my Clubcard vouchers and apply for May instead biggrin
