Whilst I was working in the far east I managed to pop over to Shanghai for a weekend. I'd never been to mainland china so didn't really know what to expect. I read a guide book on the plane and it seemed like much of the old part of Shanghai was being developed into oblivion, so before it dissapears too much I decided to head off to the older part of town.

Taking shots was pretty difficult, it was overcast, lots of smog and very bright - like being inside a diffuser. Most of the street stuff was taken with a 10-20mm, quite a lot of them taken from the hip.

Anyway here's a selection - C&C very welcome.

Old lady sitting in a street

Busy junction (with local film developing shop in background)

 Enginnering works

 Slightly more modern flats

 Local delivery service

Local food store (and caught taking the shot as well)

 Paultry

Fish, snakes and anything else you can imagine

 More of everything else

 And some more

 Man walking in Pyjamas

 Couple in pjs

 Modern shanghai on the doorstep

 Bike repair

 Doing the laundry

 More deliveries

 Grocery store

 Street

 Another Street

 Shanghai soup dumplings

 Eating Shanghai soup dumplings

 Recreation

 More cards

The more modern side of Shanghai can be seen at my flickr pages http://www.flickr.com/photos/kantryla/sets/

Love 21 to the end. May I be so bold as to suggest that the first one MAY look better as black and white? I'd try using the channel mixer (set to grayscale) to blend different amounts of red, green and blue (to simulate using a red, blue or green filter in front of the lens), adjusting the amounts to adjust the contrast to suit. I'd give it a go if I was on the other computer.
