I'm sort of hoping the new 5d will be soon - it may stop me buying a 1ds Mk3 for a while yet!

Hi Adrian, if you want more rumours than any sane mind can take (as well as a few complete fabrications) check out some of the posts at: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=...

I'm fighting the battle regarding the 1DS Mark III: I know I'm going to buy one sooner or later: I just wonder when I'm going to put myself out of my misery...

The usability of the Mark III over the somewhat antiquated (but still brilliant) 1DS Mark II is the biggest draw. Image-quality wise my Mark II is still astonishing, especially RAW files correctly sharpened...

you are quite correct - too many rumours to read.

when/if you do get tempted with the Mk3 I may be interested in the Mk2!

Unless canon spring a suprise expect...

15-16mp
Live view
14bit raw
2 stops over the old 5D
DIGICIII
6.5-8 fps
18 point AF or so with 7-9 accurate cross types
Hopefully micro lens adjust
3" LCD, hopefully hires ala nikon.

Would love to see canon break out of the evolution mould though and hit it with some funky features likebuilt in wireless, and flash trigger etc.

Also would love them to put the old 5D sensor in the current 40D for about D300 prices.

so is it the case that the 5d replacement (if it existsa and whatever it is called) falls between the pro and the pro-sumer markets?

if so, what other features should there be?

Its always falen between the pro and amature markets.

Canon targeted it at the low end pro/wedding/studio market.

Canon seem to make cameras targeted at specific functions (studio, sport, wedding etc) at the upper end unlike nikon who make all round cameras.

As to what they can add, Dual CF card slots and weathersealing would be a dmaned good start!
