Can anybody help me? I am looking for a new lens for the girlfriend.

She wants a Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Lens

Obviously I have no idea what that means and will probably end up on eBay later.
Can anybody reccomend a better (lower cost) shop..?

Thank you

A new lens for the girlfriend?

Sounds like a fair swap.

Ithankyou!

Nikon 18-200mm VR - basically mega range zoom (similar to a decent compacts range), with image stabilisation to stop the shakes. Good general lens for everyday use. Not perfect optically, or particularly fast (ie good in low light minus the IS) but better than most mega zooms.

Just looked at that page. Think the price has gone up in the last couple of hours - now £405!?!

I've used AJ Purdy very satisfactorily before but they're listing this at £429. Try Camera Price Buster for price comparison (cheapest £399 at time of writing).

Borrowed an 18-200 for some party candids recently. Very acceptable walkaround lens. True, still not perfect optically but miles ahead of the kit lenses in quality and sharpness. And much more convenient than swapping lenses - esp in a fast moving setting.

Would recommend buying new because there's an issue with lens creep (it has a tendency to extend or retract its zoom if held vertically) and the later ones seem to suffer less from this.

Thanks, will do some more looking.
She wants the lens for shooting a wedding, normally borrows one but possibly looking at doing it as a job...

smile Sounds great, shame I didn't see it before. Few too many hours for me to get up there for the weekend.
Enjoy!
