Image Copyright Question

Hoping someone can advise me in this area.

Having had a number of images published this year and as a result, I'm having
more requests for digital images etc, so I need to clarify what is the position
on copyright.

If I sell a high res image without a copyright watermark, is the purchaser free
to do as they please or can I set my own terms, i.e they can use it for
promotional work, but not resell etc?

Better still, I would hope I am covered for such things under the intellectual
property law without having to state the can dos and can't dos to each client?

Perhaps a can of worms, but anyone care to take it on?

you own all rights and copywrite to any image you take. That changes based on the terms in the contract under which you sell them so if you wish to retain rights etc you need to get woreded into the contract exactly what they are buying from you. IE the right to print only in x publication etc.

As with hosting, you give rights to many hosting sites unless you host on your own site. These sites usually have a clause that gives them and their company groups full rights to publish for free your image.

If you are talking about selling an image to a punter off the back of a publication you have to ensure the rights havent been granted to the publication. If you sell a photo to a punter, say I buy one off your site I am merely buying the right to that one copy unless woreded otherwise.

There is some consternation as to whether it's worth creating a license from here but it might help you to understand what's involved in creating a license/copyright.
