bloke i work with wants a starter slr,

i think the right route to go is cheapish second hand body with a few quid left for a proper lens.

total budget is around 300-350.

i'm thinking 350D will be around £200, leaving 150 for some nice glass...i might be wrong so open to suggestions.

help appreciated,

rick. smile

I'll be selling a 350d, twin kit (18-55 plus 55-200) plus battery grip and a couple of batteries. I expect I'll get around £320 for it from what I can see on ebay.

It seems that a standard 350d kit is about £250, the 90-300mm zoom can be bought new for about £120.

think the dude will need a fairly wide to mid zoom. something like a 24-70mm would be on a full frame.
