1st go at burning pics-no success,so far

Hi, This is my first time of trying to burn some pics to disc, I have a toshiba laptop with a dvd multi recorder and dvd+rw on it, I have DVD+R discs but my handbook says the dvd rewriter is 8x and the discs are 16x is this where I have gone wrong? the pc is also not recognising when a disc is in the drive.
The first time i tried it appeard to work up to pic no 145 out of 245 then it said not enough space left and would not recognise the next disc, the files are jpeg and between 1.5 and 4.5 meg each.

The 8x vs 16x is not a problem, it means that your drive runs at 8x but the discs can cope with anything up to 16x. What burn software are you using?

the orignal software that came with the laptop,via windows photo gallery.
