All, I think I need to update my lenses for my D50 (I'm not contemplating updating this, but could be persuaded..)

Currently I have :

Nikon 18-55 (the lens that it came with)

Tokina 70-400, a lens which has held me in good stead and worked extremely well with my F80 and F90X, but the D50 just doesn't seem to like it, especially on the longer focal lengths.

Sigma 500, which I hardly use, but have "just in case"..

I was thinking of a 55-200 sized lens, or possibly something with a bit more range, but want quick focussing..

I'm not flush, so won't be throwing lots of money at the lens or lenses but feel that sub £200 is about the right level... I mainly want a lens with enough reach to take motorsport shots, at circuits, but for the focussing to be quick enough..

Noticed the following on fleabay..

Tamron, 28-300, 3.5-6.3 , seems ideal and good value.. or is it just a case of you get what you pay for?

Or maybe something like these??

Nikon, 70-300 (4-5.6) G lens, but something tells me that it isn't ideal for a DSLR.. but maybe I've got that wrong?? Which could also be the case with the Tamron?

Tamron 55-200, 4-5.6

Nikon 55-200, 4-5.6

Or this one, Tamron 18-200, 3.5-6.3

I don't think my money will stretch to a lens below 4.0... unless someone can find one! Although the Tamron's above are 3.5 but then stretch to 6.3... Which I guess I'll be at, if I'm at the longer range...

Or should I update the shorter (18-55?) lens as well?

I'm not snobby about lenses, so brand isn't an issue, and I'm not in a great rush to buy one either, so happy to wait and see when one becomes available, if it's recommended and currently not available.

My opinion is Sigma seem to do the biz, for the price.
