Anyone tried taking photos from your car whilst it is moving? It is easy and great fun and a good one for when you are lacking inspiration in your photpgraphy.

I'd be keen to see any that you guys have taken....

That's pretty cool.
Do you have any shots of the rig you used to hold the camera?
Also, what did you do for a shutter release?

Cheers

I just setup my tripod in the back seats and wedged it in as solidly as I could (it works best on smooth roads, hence the trips up and down the A14!).

As for shutter release I just used the self timer, pressed the button and moved out of the way and waited for the picture to be taken. You could use a remote shutter release or cable release (probably much safer than using the self timer).

It looks best when you have trucks or cars in your view as they blur nicely or lights at night work pretty well.

It is a bit of trial and error but good fun.

Oh... make sure to clean your windscreen first!!

Also listening to Radio 2 which some also consider a crime in itself...

I hope not! Although I never thought about that. I suppose nobody could prove where or when I was driving or in fact if it was me driving.

Is that top one taken at Bury-st-Edmunds - reminds of the Moreton Hall junction when heading East. nerd

I'm an old fart and I never listen to Radio 2 - far too racey for me.

Matt W and I did some car to car stuff which worked quite well

He was driving my Landy with a rig and a remote, I was in the Aston - both at about 2 mph. I then did the daft PS thing (which I quite like, but doubt anyone else will)

Mostly radio 5 for me....

Like the photo, as my eye moves around it, it seems to move and jump out!! smile Not sure if that's just because of the road surface or in addition to the PS "thing".. smile

Excellent clap

I shall have to have a go at the in car pics, they look quite dramatic.

As for radio 2, I'm 20 and I listen to it, they actualy play a variety of music rather the same crappy short playlists on radio 1 or the local stations. If I hear duffy one more time I'm going to slit my wrists!

I've had some success with moving car shots in the past:
camera mounted on a b-hague camera mount through the tunnel under manchester airport:

and one outside the car, camera mounted on the roof:

and taken on the mountain road on the IOM in 2006, leaning out of a another scooby:

Both great fun to do. I also did this one on my old scooby, also using the b-hague mount and about 5 mph:

This was about a year ago. I keep meaning to get the tripod strapped onto the back of the MX5 and have another go with the roof down. This was taken with the 30D on a tripod on the back seat held down by seatbelts and a cable release to the front seat.
