I've been looking for a compact which has RAW capability - if I buy a DSLR - I simply won't take it out enough

I had been fairly settled on a Canon G9 but have come across the Panasonic Lumix LX1 -

aside from the enticing retro Leica style - it appears to offer RAW format??

any opinions on this one guys?

I 've only had experience with Canons in the past - so would appreciate opinions on the Panasonic range -- esp . as I'm not shelling out for a real Leica!

I can't comment on the camera, but if the thought of taking out a DSLR is too much, are you really going to sit down and spend hours processing RAW files? If you're interested in RAW that tells me you're after best quality, and if so, then surely the bigger chip and better lenses of DSLRs are the first step?

I take all what you say about DSLRs and i don't mind processing files but I've never been keen on lugging an slr about - my old 35mm ended up sitting about at home because I wasn't prepared to carry it about all day!

I think carrying a DSLR around can be made a lot easier by your choice of camera bag, if you have something that sits comfortably and is as small as possible (unless you want to carry a load of gear at the same time) you'll just get used to it being with you.

just to let you know the LX1 is no more and was replaces by the LX2 which is very hard to come by at the moment (maybe an LX3 ?? on the horizon ) but as a camera the LX is a nice bit of kit, panners are very reliable in my experience and i would be happy part with my own money for one
