the engineering on these little critters is amazing biggrin

Not a great shot, but considering this little mite was less than 1/3rd of a mm long (if not less) I'm fairly happy with it. Manually focusing on something this size, handheld, is not easy when it is running around wobble

Cheers,

Neil.

edited to say, woohoo, I've managed to make the images click to the large versions

Amazing, what's your success ratio like from the manual focussing at such short range?

Trust me...it's impossible for those things to fly hehe

No...I meant from an engineering point of view. It's a good job the Wright brothers didn't use flys for inspiration.

Martin.

True but somehow it works, kind of like the 911 that's evolution for you I guess smile

idea My new theory of religion, "God" & evolution is actually a department of engineers allowed to run amok. That duck billed platypus is defintiely a parts bin special laugh

Anyway the old superglue technique could be useful for the ones that are designed right. Has saved me many a time with a flightly little bird.

If you're someone devoid of a sense of humor reading this, of course I don't superglue birds to branches it's just an old joke and yes I have probably been at my desk far too much recently, oh and the religion idea is mine and mine alone OK just in case I want to do an L Ron Hubbard with it so I can afford a GT3

thanks folks.

CVP, success rate is about 50-75%, I'm getting fairly used to shooting insects now, and no, there is no superglue/hairspray used biggrin

Wow that's pretty good, my macro ratio is way way less than that. Must practice more

I was sure I read somewhere they have to jump forward before they can fly backwards.
Hence, you can catch them easily if you approach from head on and swipe front-to-back.

My catch rate is well above 90%

Oh sorry OP. Nice photos. What lens for the fly pics?
