Ok, maybe a silly question, but i haven't spotted the answer anywhere previously.

If I set my EOS 400D to take bracketed exposures, does it create three separate images, so that when I download the photos to my PC, I'll have the same photos (with different exposures of course) three times - i.e. 001, 002, 003?

Yes.

(No question is too silly - that's another reason why forums exist, to help!)

Thanks- I just wasn't sure and when you take a load of photos, it's difficult to remember how many you took in one position etc! Cheers for clearing that up.

Make sure you hold down the shutter until it has taken all three. If you let go after one or two it will take the over / under exposed shot on your next subject.

Except that in less time than it took you to type that, you could have found out by doing it smile

True - but then I would have had to go, find my camera, do the photos, plug in, download... etc etc.

Any way to do more than three exposures?

Say -6 -4 -2 0 2 4 6? How would one set them manually? Is it simply one/two stop(s) of apeture, or is there more to it than that?

If it's any help, a camera I've been using (EOS 300D) only allows the three.

Pretty sure the 400 only allows 3 too.

-2 sounds a lot(never mind -6). I normally use +/- 2/3.

Plug in and download? Doesn't the 400D have one of those handy built-in monitors on the back?

Yeah the 350 only does 3. In the bright lights of Picadilly Circus, the lights are still blown out. Ah well.

ETA- what if you don't have exposure bracketing at all? Surely there's nothing to stop you doing multiple exposures? Just gotta work them out and set them yourself? nerd

Exposure bracketing is mostly used for HDR now. HDR needs the camera to be unmoved, hence using auto bracketing, a tripod and a remote. When you start playing with the camera to fix add more bracketing the frame moves.
