Charging Magazines for pictures???
Discussion
It depends on the magazine really. Most have a set fee per image and also for commissioned work. I say set a high, but realistic fee and settle for a fee that you will be happy with should they knock you down. It's a tricky one really as agencies charge a fee for use dependent on circulation and duration of use whilst regular punters such as yourself have to negotiate.
Was just about to post a similiar thread so guess I'll just ask here.
A magazine asked me if they could use one of my pictures, offered me 100 singapore dollars (about £35 i think) to use it at 1/4 A4 size.
Wasnt sure if it was a good deal or not but accepted it anyway, they havent decided whether theyll use it or not yet but was just wondering whether i could have asked for more or not.

Looking at Poah's figure's (and taking 1 page to be A4) then the pic size they want is about 1/4 of a page. At poah's figure's that's only £12.50 so you probably did good.
Plus if you're happy and they think its cheap then you'll be remembered and possibly asked again. If they do use it then it's exposure, too.
Well done.

AP once did a feature on some photos I took in siberia (quite a few years back now), and I was paid £150. I think it was a 3 page feature, although it could have been 5... anyway, I was happy with it at the time. Mainly because I wasn't expecting anything then a cheque came through the letterbox!
