Anyone got any recommendations for fairly decent editing software? Don't need any special effects, just editing AVI captured from DV tape, storyboard, ability to add soundtrack, titles and still photos for instance. If it captures to AVI then all the better but not essential. Must save to MPEG2 for creating DVDs (I use Sonic MyDVD for this). Was using MGI Videowave which came bundled with either my laptop or vid camera, I forget which, but now the laptop is dead I no longer have the software. Oh, must work on XP and Vista.

thanks smile

Adobe Premiere is pretty good! Pricey mind, unless you have some *cough* "friends" with a copy...

I've tried adobe, and boy is it complicated to get around frown In the meantime, I'm more than happy using Pinnacle Studio 9. (think they're on v11 now though) Brilliant program, dead easy to use, add mp3 files to film, create whole dvd's from scratch, with proper clickable menus, in fact everything you'd want to do.
Simple film I made, amongst others here:

and all of my club films are here made using Pinnacle: http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/video.asp

Yes Pinnacle Studio is easy to use.It does support widescreen 16:9 and you can convert from 4:3.Saw this in PC World for about £70 .Remember you need a firewire board on your PC to upload video from your camcorder.

While we are talking about video editing, does anyone know of any good copyright free Music I can use on my car videos.

I have done some fairly hefty copying editing of some old VHS tape and settled on Pinnacle Studio 11

I used a USB device and found it fairly straightforward. There are people writing add ins/effects and a pretty good support community

If you want to use high definition video (AVCHD) files then Adobe premiere elemnts is no good. The best budget package that can process these files is Sony Vegas 8.0 Platinum edition but this doesnt work on my Vista 64 bit system. The other 2 packages that work are Ulead Videostudio and Pinnacle Studio Plus version 11. I use the latter because it is in my opinion somewhat easier to use.

Another user of Pinnacle 11 here. Much more stable than version 10.

Do any of them work on 64 bit vista? I've read a few comments that pinnacle 11 doesn't work with vista 32 very well even and has no interlacing options. And Adobe Premiere (full version) is rather expensive I see at something like £600. Is Ulead any good, or Sony Vegas? My dad has the latter so I may have a go with it.
Anyone used the latest version of Roxio Videowave? Which I think is now part of Easy Media Creator 10

thanks
