Can anyone recommend a good DSLR book for a beginner? I have waded through all the starter books and I am looking for something a little bit more advanced (but not to technical yet). Cheers.

Mine came with a Magic Lantern Guide book.

It broke down & explained every function on the camera in detail along with tips too, one in particular which helped me get my pan shots up to a decent level.

What site, this (PH) site?

OP have a look at photo.net, it has lots of useful info under LEARNING, a lot of it by Philip Greenspun, he's an MIT Professor and top bloke.

And it's free...

...and having recovered from the Ren Kockwell plug....

How about browsing : http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ ?

The "Techniques" and "Tutorials" are full of good stuff.

The Blue Crane training DVDs are a good introduction to the camera, it's features and the basics of how to take a good photo (well the 30D one is at least). They do more advanced guides on taking photos but I haven't seen them yet.

Scott Kelby has a couple of DSLR books out, in similar "recipe" style to his excellent Photoshop books. They don't tell you much about which buttons to press but lots about why and which settings you might want to alter.
