It keeps clouding over a bit, i went out and had a few burst shots, to get set-up, although with work im not sure if im gonna be able to stick it out?
Any tips on settings, these were the best i got, about 1/60th, ISO 100, f4-6ish.... but they dont seem to clear to me??? I used the tripod and camera timer.

Nice pics - unfortunately it is cloudy here & the Moon is the size of a pimple!

Looking forward to some shots from those who are brave enough not to sleep!!

I'm no expert, but, I set everything to manual
Manual focus, set to infinity.
Fastest ISO (my camera only goes up to ISO400)
About F3.5 (Iris setting !!? small F no = Big Iris)
for a bright full moon 1/1000 shutter
fully elclipsed moon dowwn to 1/60 shutter speed.
(mainly trial and error, with a lot of errors !!!)

but i'll deffer to anyone who thinks i'm wrong wink

Nothing visible in Edinburgh frown 100% cloud cover.

As for those looking for suggestions, ramp the aperture up to about f/13. You don't need close DOF or swift shutters.

Wouldn't focusing on infinity give a soft image?

On my display it's got a guide of 2m, 3m, (a gap) 5m, (a slightly bigger gap with 20 steps) then infinity.
I figured the moon is closer to infinity than 5m.
I also figured that it wasn't intended to be used for taking pictures at 240,000 miles. But i will try coming off infinity by a few steps.
Thanks

Trouble with lens design is due to conditions you can often go past infinity so you've got to be carefull.

You could of told them you where testing a bed. laughlaugh
Then you could of stayed up and watched the clouds as well.

slightly off topic here, but what is it with people using "of" instead of "have"?

Gutted I missed the eclipse, but I did manage to get this shot. Well, it was about 5 shots all put together. A little blurry cos I don't have my tripod, so all the shots were hand-held.

I could of used "have" instead of "of" or i could of used "could've"
Ok, so i'm not a professional writer tongue out
If i was talking to the queen i might of used "have"
also it sounds like a mix of past and present tense. i know it's not.
I will try to do better in the future.

but i found this explanation wink

—Pronunciation note Because the preposition of, when unstressed (a piece of cake), and the unstressed or contracted auxiliary verb have (could have gone, could've gone) are both pronounced /əv/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[uhv] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation or /ə/[uh] in connected speech, inexperienced writers commonly confuse the two words, spelling have as of (I would of handed in my book report, but the dog ate it). Professional writers have been able to exploit this spelling deliberately, especially in fiction, to help represent the speech of the uneducated: If he could of went home, he would of.
