Oh that is so funny. The Penn photograph is of his wife, Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn, the so called first supermodel. She was an incredibly beautiful and elegant woman.

She never had anorexia as far as I know. I always thought that she had the most incredibly beautiful face and an elegance that is very rare today.

hehe

It helps if you recognise the photographer and/or the photograph wink

E.g., the moonlit pond by Edward Steichen was taken in 1904, and one of only 3 copies in existence was recently sold for nearly $3million - it uses an experimental technique to give the impression of colour, several years before colour prints became possible.

nope, never seen it before.
not that i should have seen it before as i'm not into the history of photography or owt, infact for that matter other than 'David Bailey' i couldn't tell you the names of any famous photographers even if i bumped into them.
i take pics, i try to take goods pics, it's a hobby, i'm trying to get better and better with each pic but time is against me, some of us have to work for a living LOL.

I've heard of Whittle and Von Ohain but don't know the last one though. Cartier-Bresson is probably one of the most famous photographers of all time, and one of the images on that page was in the news a couple of years ago when it was sold for $3 million smile

I saw one of these at the V&A about ten years ago and I was mesmerised by it. It really is incredible. It has such an ethereal quality and is so very delicate.
