...nice work, is it one of a series?...
I know his work well. He produced that series a year or so before I did mine. He did inspire me a great deal. Mine is one of a series of seven photographs based on Renaissance paintings. Each photograph depicted a modern day equivalent of classical themes. St Sebastian - a pierced man, signifying the pleasure and pain of martyrdom (my friend, up some scaffolding, stark-bollock naked on a building site); Venus and Adonis - my cynical take on modern day relationships and 'lads'; Adam and Eve - two body-builders, alluding to the use of steroids; The Three Graces - a look at young women, club culture and the corrupting influence of sex, drugs and smoking; The Crucifixion - anti-road protestors, sacrificing all for their beliefs; and Victory - rising young stars in football. http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/tom_...
