Had a great evening at a Kaz Studio www.kaz-studio.co.uk tuition evening working with Lauren Ridealgh.

As it's rare that I get to shoot much else than landscapes & wedding guests, so it was great to "work" with a professional model for a change.

I'm chuffed with the results:

Amazing pictures. What kind of camera were you using by the way. I am new to photography and was thinking of getting a cannon S5..good choice?

Great results (I've never done studio work - so they are all better than I could do), but with my critical hat on....

I don't like the shadow around the model on the spot light ones. Perhaps another spotlight from the left may have helped?

The monochrome ones look a little 'flat' to me, perhaps more contrast might have been better (perhaps not!).

I *really* like the colour heads and shoulders shot.

The ballet shot is very well lit, and is perfect against the black backdrop. I'd be tempted to go high contrast monochrome with this one, but I think the colour version works very well.

Nice set of pics!

Mapey - Man of Many Talents! Excellent results.

So is studio work a bit of a learning curve - does learning about the lighting come together easily?

Your link to the Studio's website isn't working... I think

I know what you mean, but I now quite like it and it gives an "edge" to the shot IMHO

I know - I was trying to soften them down! I'm normally the king of high contrast but I was trying for a softer feel with those...

Many thanks wink

Boxster9 - All my shots are taken on my trusty Nikon D70 and those were taken with the 18-70 lens that the camera came with...

I still think the D70 is stunning value as its a great first DSLR, and you can "grow"! with it.

I'm now considering an upgrade as I have had it for four years + now (and would like some more more pixels wink) - Used D70 seem to have settled near the £200 mark on ebay and are a great bargain at that money.

Cheers for the comments all.

Great shots. Very impressive.

She looks familiar, was she one of the gymnast/dancers in the video for Mason's "Perfection" song last year?

No, AFAIK all reviews said it was a very good lens for the money (£150-199), and that's my experience too. The term 'kit' was really only because it came with the D70, not because it was poor.

On reflection I think I might have got it mixed up with the Canon offering of the time...appologies my Nikonian chums smile Anyway, you can see from the OP that there is nothing wrong with it...

Martin, as I understand it the "inferior" lens offered on the D70 was an 28-80 or somesuch, the 18-70 has always been the "preferred" one.

Many thanks for the nice words though wink
