Which photographers inspire you?
Discussion
Following on from the Nachtwey (sp?) thread, which photographers inspire you?
For me, in no particular order, it's got to be Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier Bresson, Ansel Adams, Tim Page and Don McCullin (and occasionally Man Ray, if I've been drinking Absinthe). I also like the portraits by (I think) June Bown in the Observer - I can't remember her name.
Doisneau and Bresson always seem to capture something extra in the scenes they shoot; Adams's pictures are just sheer art (although he did have rather good models to start with); Page and McCullin produce execptional reportage that literally leaves me with my mouth hanging open, and Man Ray is, well, Man Ray.
Who does it for you, and why?
And to make it extra hard, try to "illustrate" without using a picture...

I could look at any single Bill Brandt portrait for an age and never tire of looking.
Joel Meyerowitz fills me with a love of colour and light and makes me want to emigrate.
Helmut Newton for his mastery of the erotic image.
Irving Penn for his ability to create such achingly beautiful images, whether they be of women, flowers or detritus.
Don McCullin for his insightful view of the world and unfailing ability to distil so much in a single image.
Robert Capa for his balls and lust for life.

Inspiring in an accessible "I think I could do something like that" way. Plenty of other photographers have supplied me with plenty of ideas but Steve's work (especially the Pic-a-day) is what gets me out of this chair and draining the D30's batteries most often.
